What to Do When a Civic Issue Is Not Resolved

TL;DR If your civic issue is not resolved or you get no response, you can escalate: use the first appeal on the grievance portal, or go to the next level (e.g. State if you started at local). For RTI, use the appellate authority and then the Information Commission. Keep proof of every step.

Grievance redress

  • Check the stated timeline. If the date has passed with no response, use the “first appeal” or escalation option on the same portal.
  • If you started at the local level and got no result, you can sometimes take the same issue to the State grievance portal (if it is a State subject).
  • Keep your reference number, a copy of the complaint, and any response. One follow-up often gets the file moving.

RTI

If the PIO does not reply in 30 days or you are not satisfied, go to the first appellate authority (same department). If still not satisfied, you can approach the Central or State Information Commission.
