TL;DR: The government now gives each panchayat a “report card” (Devolution Index). We can use it to see how much power and funds our local body really has.

In 2024, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj started publishing a Devolution Index. It shows how well each state has given powers and money to panchayats. Your panchayat’s performance can be linked to this.

Three things we can do:

1. Find your state’s Devolution Index report online (Ministry of Panchayati Raj website).
2. Ask your gram panchayat in the next meeting: “Has our panchayat seen this report? What are we doing to improve?”
3. Share what you learn with other villagers so more people can ask informed questions.
